In this lesson, we will learn how to express desires such as “I want to do ~” or “I want ~” in Vietnamese.<\/p>\n
Vietnamese also has a structure to express desires similar to English. However, the difference is that in Vietnamese, there is no distinction in the structure when expressing a desire to do something or to have something. In Vietnamese, both meanings can be conveyed using auxiliary verbs, as shown below.<\/p>\n
The “T\u00f4i mu\u1ed1n~” Structure<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n 1. “I want to do ~” Structure (Equivalent to “want to” in English)<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n Example Sentences:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2460 T\u00f4i mu\u1ed1n<\/span> cu\u1ed1n s\u00e1ch n\u00e0y. \u2461 C\u00f4 \u1ea5y mu\u1ed1n<\/span> \u0103n m\u00f3n \u00dd. \u2462 T\u00f4i mu\u1ed1n<\/span> g\u1eb7p ch\u1ecb Lan. \u2463 T\u00f4i mu\u1ed1n<\/span> \u0111i s\u00e2n bay T\u00e2n S\u01a1n Nh\u1ea5t. \u2464 Anh \u1ea5y kh\u00f4ng mu\u1ed1n<\/span> s\u1ed1ng \u1edf n\u00f4ng th\u00f4n. 2. “I want someone to do ~” Structure<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n (This structure takes a clause afterward to indicate “wanting someone to do something”)<\/p>\n Example Sentences:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2460 Gi\u00e1m \u0111\u1ed1c mu\u1ed1n<\/span> nh\u00e2n vi\u00ean \u0111\u1ebfn c\u00f4ng ty s\u1edbm.\u00a0 \u2461 C\u00f4 \u1ea5y mu\u1ed1n<\/span> t\u00f4i \u0111i v\u1edbi c\u00f4 \u1ea5y. \u2462 M\u1eb9 t\u00f4i kh\u00f4ng mu\u1ed1n<\/span> t\u00f4i v\u1ec1 mu\u1ed9n. “T\u00f4i mong~” and “T\u00f4i hi v\u1ecdng~”<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n The auxiliary verb “mu\u1ed1n”<\/strong><\/span> can be replaced with “mong” <\/strong><\/span>(meaning wish, desire \u2013 equivalent to “wish” in English) or “k\u1ef3 v\u1ecdng”<\/strong><\/span>, “hi v\u1ecdng”<\/strong><\/span> (meaning expect, hope in English).<\/p>\n Example Sentences:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2460 T\u00f4i mong<\/span> anh \u1ea5y s\u1ebd s\u1edbm kh\u1ecfi b\u1ec7nh. \u2461 Mong<\/span> m\u1ecdi vi\u1ec7c s\u1ebd s\u1edbm \u1ed5n \u0111\u1ecbnh. \u2462 T\u00f4i hi v\u1ecdng<\/span> ch\u1ecb \u1ea5y s\u1ebd \u0111\u1ea1t gi\u1ea3i. \u2463 Trong t\u01b0\u01a1ng lai, t\u00f4i hi v\u1ecdng<\/span> em t\u00f4i s\u1ebd tr\u1edf th\u00e0nh b\u00e1c s\u0129.
